The peacock is a symbol of divinity, beauty, power, and nobility in ancient times. Two peacocks represent a good marriage and relationship. The five bats that surround the peacock represent the five blessings: wealth, longevity, prosperity, virtue, and a tranquil and successful conclusion.

The character for the lotus is a homophonic character, which, like many Mandarin characters, has a pronounced sound that can have different meanings. The lotus character in Mandarin represents a collection symbolizing unity. The flower itself is regarded as the sacred flower and is often associated with qualities such as integrity, righteousness, beauty, and purity.

The Bao Xiang flowers (pronounced “Bao Sh’young Hua”), seen in the center of the design, are fictional hybrid flowers with characteristics from several flowers such as peony, lotus, chrysanthemum, pomegranate, and others.
