About epona
My world is a meeting place of opposites: East and West, ancient and modern, technical skill and Renaissance artistry.
My training has been slow and impeccable. I learned the ancient art of Italian push-engraving in the birthplace of the Renaissance, Florence. I studied under the finest practitioners, before accepting roles at Tiffany and Co. where I undertook the position of sole engraver, and Patek Philippe where I engraved original designs on watch straps.
Now London-based and on the cusp of creating my own studio, I make original pieces and bespoke commissions. I travel the world advocating for my craft which has recently been placed on the red list of endangered heritage crafts. I am a master-craftsperson and an ambassador, safeguarding years of tradition, and simultaneously at the vanguard, spearheading a rebirth of my craft, its own renaissance. My duty to my craft is absolute.
Welcome to my exquisite world.
Behind the Pieces
Epona Smith is a jewellery designer and hand engraver, who embraces history by incorporating ancient oriental culture into her artwork. By fusing traditional European techniques with her oriental culture background, Epona transforms traditional heirlooms into contemporary jewellery.
She embraces illustration as a form of therapy. Instead of telling her own stories, she also encourages her wearers to express themselves through bespoke, hand-engraved illustration and design. She believes the wearer can be healed through the process of telling their own stories.
